La Ametlla de Mar, the heart of the Costa Dorada

The Costa Dorada is the coastal area located in the northernmost part of southern Catalonia. The capital is Tarragona and has the area of influence distributed in six counties and 131 municipalities.

It has a surface area of 2,999 km2 and together with the districts of Lleida, Girona and Barcelona, it forms Catalonia. It borders to the north with the French State, beyond the Pyrenees, to the south with the Valencian Country and to the west with Aragon, one of the 17 autonomous communities of the Spanish State, and to the south of Western Europe.

Its privileged location allows it to have a very varied territory, ranging from the mountains to the coast, bathed by the Mediterranean Sea. It is made up of the regions of Alt Camp, Baix Camp, Conca de Barberà, Priorat, Tarragonès and Baix Penedès.

The entire Costa Dorada enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate, with mild temperatures in winter and warm summers with little rainfall. In winter, the mestral wind or cierzo blows from the north-west and the garbí from the south-west, and in summer there is a low degree of humidity that keeps the fog away.
